It has long been said that dogs are a man’s best friend. If that’s true, you’ll never find a more expensive best friend than the Tibetan Mastiff, the world’s most expensive dog.

Tibetan Mastiffs have an average selling price of $1.5 million dollars and are rarely sold outside of China. The highest selling most expensive Tibetan Mastiff was a red colored puppy named The Standard, which fetched $3.3 million dollars. And while it may be shocking and seem just ridiculous that anyone would pay so much money for a dog, there’s much more to the Tibetan Mastiff breed than meets the eye.

It’s a common belief that Tibetan Mastiffs are reincarnations of the Tibetan monks. They are not only a status symbol for the millionaires and billionaires of China, they’re also a cultural symbol held in high regards throughout the nation. The factors and a few others are the reasons behind the Tibetan Mastiff’s exorbitant price.

Check out the documentary below for more facts about The Guardian Breed, otherwise known as, the Tibetan Mastiff. I’d also recommend this excellent article written by the American Kennel Club.
